National Adoption Day

Today is a wonderful day to celebrate family.

Every family looks different. Some are big and some are small. Some are biologically all related and some are not. Those are not what defines a family. People who love you and accept you; people who look out for you and encourage you - that's family.

Today in the Unites States many are celebrating a new kind of family - the adoptive one.

According to the National Adoption Day website there are more than 100,000 children waiting in the foster care system to be invited to join a Forever Family.

I live in Canada and our research states there are over 30,000 children available for adoption today.

I cannot speak from direct experience about the impact of adopting a child. Someday we hope to do this as a family and have had many dis
cussions about it. Currently we are watching very close friends of ours who are in the last and final stages of an International Adoption. They are waiting for final passports and documents to be printed so they can bring their twin boys home from Haiti. It has been an exciting and yet grueling process to watch. We are so excited for the day they will arrive.

Adoption is a huge committment and not one to be taken lightly. But I have seen in many cases that it is one that will bless your life for years to come. Not to mention the difference it will make in a child's life.

Recently I received a video link from an organization titled ILikeGiving.com. There have a video for you about Adoption and the power it can have in the life of a child. Here is a blurb about the organization:
ILikeGiving.com has just launched with the goal to inspire intentional generosity. Part of their mission is to create short films that showcase the unique ways people give. They’ve created a short film about the Dennehy family from Virginia. This Christian family has twelve children, some of them adopted, some of them with special needs, and as a family friend says, “they look like a mini United Nations!”
Please take a moment to watch this amazing video I Like Adoption about this family and the choices they've made in regards to adoption.

Check it out.  And while you are at it why not take a look at some of these kids (U.S.A.) (Alberta, Canada*) awaiting a FOREVER FAMILY like yours.

** In Canada, Adoptions are handled by province. So search your province's goverment sites for child services/adoptions. or check out the Canadian Website for broader information.
